DHAKA: The cabinet approved the draft of the National School Meal Policy-2019 aiming to bring dropouts to primary schools as well to increase their attendance.
The approval came at a meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair at the Prime Minister’s Office on Monday (August 19).
“We have approved National School Meal Policy, 2019 which aims to at bring all the students of government primary schools under the midday meal coverage by 2023,” Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam briefed reporters at the Secretariat.
The policy will be turned into a law by 2023, he added.
In line with the policy, as he also said, the government is going to form a National School Meal Authority to supervise the overall activities as well as an advisory committee which consists of eminent personalities of the society to evaluate and give necessary advices to make it successful.
The midday meal would have to meet 30 percent calories and 50 percent micronutrient of the primary school students aged between 3 and 12 years.
