Security cooperation key issue at Dhaka-Delhi meeting

DHAKA: Security cooperation discussion will get top priority at the upcoming Home Minister-level meeting between Bangladesh and India.

Both countries are likely to emphasize on terrorism and counter-terrorism, the Foreign Ministry sources said.

Sources said that the seventh home minister-level meeting between Bangladesh and India will be held in Delhi on August 7.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal will lead the Bangladesh delegation at the meeting while Interior Minister Amit Shah will lead the Indian delegation.

Amit Shah has taken over charge as Home Minister after BJP government coming to power in the second term in India. For this reason, Amit Shah will lead the country in the home minister-level meeting between Bangladesh and India for the first time.

The meeting will emphasize security cooperation between the two countries. Likewise, various issues, including prevention of terrorism and militancy, killing of border, narcotics trafficking, smuggling of fake currencies through the border will come up in this meeting.

Though the border killings are lower than before; it has not stopped yet. For this reason, Bangladesh will emphasize on halting of border killings.

This is a regular meeting of the Home Ministers between Bangladesh and India. India's then Interior Minister Rajnath Singh arrived in Dhaka last June to attend the sixth home minister-level meeting.
