Suspended ACC director Enamul Basir lands in jail

DHAKA: A court here sent Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) director Khandakar Enamul Basir jail in a case filed on charge of taking bribe from suspended deputy inspector general of police Mizanur Rahman.

Senior Judge of Dhaka's Special Judge Court KM Imrul Quayes on Tuesday (July 23) passed the order, after rejecting his bail petition.

At the same time, when the defense lawyer applied for division to Enamul Bachir, the court ordered the jail authorities to take action according to the jail code.

Earlier on Monday (July 22) night, the Anti-Corruption Commission arrested its suspended director Enamul Basir of the bribery charge.

On July 16, the anti-graft body filed case against suspended deputy inspector general (DIG) of police Mizanur Rahman and its suspended director Enamul Basir over a Tk 40 lakh bribery allegation.

The anti-corruption agency received evidence that Enamul Basir has taken Tk 40 lakh in bribes from Deputy Inspector General of Police Mizanur Rahman, to ensure impunity for him.

Basir also demanded a gas-fuelled car as a gift from the DIG.

Earlier on June 10, Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has suspended its Director Khandaker Enamul Basir on charge of leaking official information to DIG Mizan, breaching code of conduct and possessing illegal wealth.

Later, the ACC appointed another director, Manzur Morshed, to investigate the allegation of amassing wealth by the police official.

Earlier in January of 2018, DIG Mizanur Rahman was withdrawn for allegation of forcefully marrying a banker woman and keeping the relationship status secret.

In May last year, the ACC had launched an enquiry into the DIG and tasked Basir with the enquiry into Mizan’s wealth.

Recently, Mizanur provided the media with the audio clips of the alleged mobile phone conversations between him and Basir to save himself through giving the bribes to the ACC official.
