DHAKA: Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said the Home Ministry has remained on strict stance so that lynching ordinary people on suspicion of being child abductors in different parts of the country, including the capital city, are not repeated.
The minister was talking to reporters on contemporary issues at the Secretariat on Monday (July 22).
Several inhuman deaths took place on suspicion of being child abductors based on the rumour that ‘Padma Bridge will take the human head’. However, Padma Bridge authorities have made it clear that it is nothing but rumours.
However, police have started investigation to arrest people involved with the alleged mob beating. Efforts are underway to bring those involved under the law, he added.
Earlier on Saturday (July 20), 40-year-old Taslima Begum Renu was killed in a lynch mob attack, suspecting her to be a 'children grabber', after she had gone to a school in North Badda to get information to enroll her daughter.
According to media reports, at least 22 mob beating incidents took place in different parts of the country including in the capital this month. In theses incident, five people were killed and 26 more injured.
