No case before Priya Shaha’s explanation

DHAKA: Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, quoting Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, said the government will not file any case now without hearing explanation of Priya Saha who made a false allegation to the US President Donald Trump that the minority community is being tortured in Bangladesh.

The Road Transport and Bridges Minister was addressing a seminar on branding metro rail project at Bangabandhu Conference Center (BICC) in the capital city on Sunday (July 21).

After the programme, responding to a question about Priya Saha's allegation to Trump, Obaidul Quader told reporters that the Prime Minister gave me a message that no such case could be filed against Priya Saha without her explanation.

In the morning, the Liberation War Affairs Minister (AKM Mozammel Haque), was preparing to file a case against Priya Saha, I disseminated the Prime Minister's message to him.

Besides, the minister said that the Home Minister has been asked to take steps to ensure safety of village house of Priya Shaha.

Asked about two cases filed against Priya Saha in the court on charges of sedition, Quader said, the matter has been discussed with the Law Minister. No one can file sedition case unless the state wants it. The cases will be rejected in the court.

Regarding Priya Saha's complaint, Obaidul Quader said that the statement made by Priya Saha was a sensitive issue. Why did she make such a statement, let us first hear her explanation? The necessary measures will be taken immediately after that.

“No action will be taken against her immediately. I would like to know why she made such a statement to Trump. I would like to know what her original motive was. I believe she will return to his homeland soon” he added.
