Leaking Nusrat’s Video: Sonagazi ex-OC Moazzem indicted

DHAKA:  A Dhaka court framed charge against suspended officer-in-charge (OC) of Sonagazi Moazzem Hossain in a case filed under the Digital Security Act for leaking video of Nusrat Jahan Rafi’s statement.

Dhaka Cyber Tribunal Judge Ash Sams Joglul Hossain on Wednesday (July 17) passed the order and set July 31 for recording deposition of witnesses in the case.

Moazzem Hossain’s lawyer Faruk Ahammad claimed his client is innocent and filed a bail petition before the court.

After hearing both sides, the court rejected the bail petition and indicted the accused.

Earlier on June 30, the court fixed July 10 for indictment hearing of a case filed against Moazzem Hossain.

Later, the Cyber Tribunal reset the date as Moazzem Hossain was not produced before it on that day.

On June 16, Shahbagh police arrested Moazzem from High Court area, in a case filed under Digital Security Act.

The complaint was made against the OC for video recording of Nusrat Jahan Rafi’s tearful statement at the police station.  Later, the video went viral in social media.

According to the case statement, the OC called Nusrat Jahan Rafi, a student of Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa, to the police station on March 27 after she had filed a case against principal Maulana Siraj Ud Doula, for sexually harassing her.

During interrogation at the police station, he asked her offensive and unpleasant questions over the incident. Later, the OC spread the video in social media.

Nusrat Jahan Rafi, a madrasa girl at Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa, who was set on fire on April 6, succumbed to her burn injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on the night of April 10.
