Rifat murder: Minni taken to police lines

BARGUNA: Ayesha Siddiqa Minni, wife of slain Barguna youth Rifat Sharif, and also prime witness of the murder case, was taken to police lines for identifying accused arrested over the incident.

She was picked up by police from her residence in Maittya area of Barguna municipality around 9am on Tuesday (July 16).

Md Maruf Hossian, superintendent of Barguna police, confirmed the matter to Banglanews. 

He said she is the prime witness of Rifat Sharif murder incident. So she has been taken to police lines for identifying the accused and recording her statement about the incident. She was not detained or arrested. 

Members of Minni’s family are also being taken to police lines for interrogation, sources said.

22-year-old Rifat Sharif from Barguna sadar upazila was allegedly hacked indiscriminately by his wife Ayesha Siddiqa Minni's alleged former husband Noyon Bond and aides in broad daylight in front of Barguna Government College June 26 morning.

A video of the brutal attack went viral on the social media, triggering widespread outrage as several bystanders was closely looking the incident but didn't come to protect the victim. 

Rifat succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital, Barishal in the afternoon.

The victim's father Abdul Halim Dulal accused 12 persons including Nayan Bond and unnamed six to seven others in a case filed with Barguna Police Station.

Nayan Bond, the key accused of the case, was killed in a reported gunfight with police in Barguna sadar upazila on July 2.
