SHERPUR: At least 40 villages of Jhenaigati, Nalitabari and Nakla upazilas of Sherpur have been inundated due to five days of heavy downpour and onrush of water from upstream.
Approximately more than 20,000 people of 8000 families are stranded because of water.
Roads, croplands, ponds have gone under water. Police cannot light their stoves as water has reached homes, relying on dry food.
“Rains could worsen the situation. Relief materials were kept ready to tackle any untoward situations,” Rubel Mahmud, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UPO) of Jhenaigati, told Banglanews.
