Rohingyas’ Bhasan Char relocation subject to PM decision The minister at the meeting

DHAKA: State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Dr Md Enamur Rahman said Rohingya refugees’ relocation to Bhasan Char is subject to Prime Minister’s (Sheikh Hasina) decision.

Mentioning that the premier had a discussion with international organizations about Rohingyas’ relocation, he said: “Upon the decision of the premier, Rohingyas will be relocated to Bhasan Char.”

The minister came up told reporters after a committee meeting at the ministry on Wednesday (June 26).

Bhasan Char is, previously known as Thengar Char, a river island which emerged twenty years ago at the mouth of the Meghna River.

Dr Md Enamur Rahman said:  “We did not receive any concrete decision from Prime Minister to take Rohingyas to Bhasan Char.   Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said next steps will be taken after her decision.” 

Dr Md Enamur Rahman said: “Infrastructure of Bhasan Char is a strong infrastructure. Houses are capable of resisting disaster. Apart from hospitals, electricity, and dairy Firm, there are 120 cyclone centers. So, considering all the factors, Bhasan Char is prepared for human habitation.” 

As international organizations are working for humanitarian aid, Prime Minister wants relocation through negotiation with everyone. She is continuing the discussion. The day, the decision is taken based on negotiations, they (Rohingyas) will be transferred providing maximum benefit.
