Elevated Expressway to open in 2022: Quader

DHAKA: Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said Dhaka Elevated Expressway (airport to Kutubkhali) will be opened after the third phase of the project completed by March, 2022.

The minister was responding to queries from reporters after briefing the latest information about Dhaka's Elevated Expressway in the capital's Kowla area, near the airport, on Tuesday (June 18).

Construction work of the first phase of the expressway, stretching from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport to Banani Railway Station, will be completed in January of 2020.

The second phase of the expressway stretching from Banani Railway Station to Moghbazar Rail Crossing will complete in December, 2020.

The third phase of the expressway, stretching from Moghbazar Rail Crossing to Kutubkhali on Dhaka-Chattogram highway, will be finished in March, 2022.

The expressway will be opened to traffic after the construction of third phase is done, said Obaidul Quader.

The minister said that the 19.73-km long expressway is being constructed in three phases under Public Private Partnership project. The projected is being implemented by Italy-Thai Development Public Company Ltd and financed by China EXIM Bank.

The construction of all Mass Rapid Transit projects in Dhaka city will be completed by 2030, Obaidul Quader added.
