Body formed to investigate graft of DIG Mizan

DHAKA:  Police Headquarters have formed a committee to probe into bribery allegations against its Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Mizanur Rahman.

Sohel Rana, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), confirmed the matter to Banglanews on Tuesday (June 18).

Mainur Rahman Chwodhury, Additional Inspector General of Police (IGP) will lead the committee that formed comprises of Shahabuddin Koraishi,  Additional IGP, and Mia Masud Hossain, Superintendent of Police at Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI).

The committee was formed to investigate the issue of bribery transactions and to submit a report. Next action will be taken against DIG Mizan after the probe report, AIG Sohel Rana added.

Earlier on June 10, Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has suspended its Director Khandaker Enamul Basir on charge of leaking official information to DIG Mizan, breaching code of conduct and possessing illegal wealth.

Sources said that Basir made an agreement of Tk 50 lakh bribe from Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Mizanur Rahman, to ensure impunity for him.

Basir also demanded a gas-fuelled car as a gift from the DIG.

Later, the ACC appointed another director, Manzur Morshed, to investigate the allegation of amassing wealth by the police official.

Earlier in January of 2018, DIG Mizanur Rahman was withdrawn for allegation of forcefully marrying a banker woman and keeping the relationship status secret.

In May last year, the ACC had launched an enquiry into the DIG and tasked Basir with the enquiry into Mizan’s wealth.
