MANIKGANJ: A court here placed a bus driver and his helper on remand for three days each, in a case filed over attempted rape on an expatriate woman in a moving vehicle in Ghior upazila.
Judge Begum Rowshan Jahan of Manikganj Chief Judicial Magistarte Court issued the order Sunday (June 16) noon.
Police produced driver Nayeb Ali and helper Sohag Mia before the court and sought seven-day remand for each.
The court also ordered to send the accused to jail following the remand.
Police said the woman arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport form Jordan Friday (June 14) evening.
After reaching Manikganj Bus stand, she boarded a bus of Swapno Paribahan around 9:30pm to go to Ghior upazila.
When the bus reached Ghior Steel Bridge after dropping all the passengers, the helper tried to rape the woman with marriage proposal.
As the bus had crossed the bridge, the victim jumped off the running bus, to escape.
Sensing the incident, locals and bystanders chased the bus and managed to catch its driver and helper.
They were handed over to police afterwards.
A case was filed over the incident, Ghior Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ashraful Alam told Banglanews Saturday (June 15).
