Lightning kills 5 in Pabna

PABNA: Five persons including a schoolgirl were killed and one injured after lightning struck them in separate areas of the district on Friday afternoon (June 14).

A couple of farmers were working in the field located at Agabagshoa village under Natun Varenga union of Bera upazila. Rains started and lightning struck them, leaving 4 of them injured. After being rushed to Bera Upazila Health Complex, doctors declared 3 of them dead, Asif Anam Siddiqi, Bera Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UPO) said quoting locals.

The deceased were named as -Abdul Mannan, 50, Abdus Salam, 49 and Anser Mallik, 47, son of Manser Mallik.

A 12-year-old school girl -Nasima Khatun- was killed when she was harvesting crop in the field, said SM Mayeen Uddin, inspector (investigation) of Aminpur Police Station.

Nasima Khatun was- daughter of Shomser Pramanik, -a 7th grade student and a resident of Char Buramara village under Aminpur Police Station.

A youth, identified as Shamim Ahmed, 32, was killed by a flash of lightning while he was catching fish with current net in Atharobaria Bill of Noubaria village of the upazila, said Masud Ranan, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bhangura police station.
