Student’s mysterious death at girlfriend's residence

DHAKA: A university student was found dead at his girlfriend's rented residence in Kuril area of the capital city early Wednesday (May 21).

Deceased Ashiq E Elahi's family termed the death 'mysterious'.

Nazmus Sakib, a classmate of the deceased, told Banglanews that Elahi was a fifth semester student at American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB).

Elahi was in a relationship with a classmate for last one and a half years. The girl lived at a rented residence with another girl in Kuril-Biswa Road area, added Sakib.

Bhatara Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abu Bakar Siddiq told Banglanews that the youth went to the girl's residence and asked her to marry him.

"The youth threatened to commit suicide as the girl declined the proposal," said the OC.

At one stage, the girl went out the residence following a scuffle over the matter. After returning, she found Ashiq hanging from the window grill with a belt, added the OC.

As the news spread, owner of the house called police.

Ashiq was taken to Kurmitola Hospital where the physician pronounced him dead.

However, the body will be sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for an autopsy, added the OC.
