RAJSHAHI: Mohanpur Police Station OC Abul Hossain has been withdrawn and attached to police lines for the sake of fair investigation of the case of suicide of schoolgirl after being raped in Mohanpur upazila.

Sohel Rana, Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of the Police Headquarters, confirmed the matter to Banglanews on Monday (May 20) midnight.

He said an investigation committee was formed in response to his father's allegation over the suicide of Sumaiya Akter Barsha, 14, a class-IX student of Bakshimoil High School in Mohanpur upazila.

The committee's responsibility is to see whether there is any negligence of officer in charge or any other police official of Mohanpur police station.

A three-member investigation committee headed by Mohammad Motiur Rahman Mollah, Additional Deputy Superintendent of the district police, has been asked to submit a report within three working days.

Earlier on Thursday (May 16), a schoolgirl has killed herself allegedly by hanging herself from ceiling fan after being raped by unknown rapists at Mohanpur Upazila.
Unable to tolerate the situation, Barsha committed suicide by hanging herself at Beelpara village in the upazila afternoon, said family members.

On information, Superintendent of Rajshahi Police Md Shahidullah, additional SP Suvrato Dey and Mohanpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sanwar Hossian visited the house of the schoolgirl.

Earlier on April 23, Barsha went to coaching centre to take tuition. Later, she was found unconscious lying on the ground beside Mohanpur-Kaliganj road. On information, victim’s father reused her and taken to Mohanpur health complex. Then, she was shifted to one-stop crisis center at RMCH, police and local sources said.

Later, April 27, victim’s father filed case under women and children repression prevention act accusing three people. Police, later, arrested one of the accused.

“But released later in the name of arbitration,” he alleged.
