RAJSHAHI: General Secretary of Bangladesh Workers Party Fazle Hossain Badshah demanded the price of paddy to be fixed at least Tk 1,100 per mound.  

He said, “It costs a farmer Taka 9500 per bigha for paddy cultivation. Therefore, price of paddy should not be kept below 1100.”

Bangladesh Workers Party leaders and activists of the district and the metropolitan staged a rally demanding paddy price hike with the slogan ‘Save Agriculture, Save Farmers’ on Sunday (May 19).

The rally also encircled the office of the Deputy Commissioner.

“Once upon a time, people would die of famine in the country. Agricultural sectors developed thanks to technology,” he said making a reference to the speech of Agriculture Minister (Dr Md Abdur Razzak) that “We have made the country self-sufficient in food.”

Fazle Hossain Badshah, also MP of Rajshahi-2 constituency, in that connection said, “But I say farmers can make the country self-reliant in food given the fact that the weather is in a favorable condition. Farmers work hard to cultivate crops, but they don’t get due credit.

President of metropolitan Workers Party Liakot Ali liku presided over the rally.
