62 Malaysia-bound Rohingyas rescued    The Rohingyas

COX’S BAZAR: Police rescued 62 Rohingya men, women and children from Ujantia Jetighat of Pekua upazila when they were set to sail illegally towards Malaysia.

Police conducted the rescue operation around 1:30 am on Saturday (May 18). 

62 rescued Rohingyas include 21 men, 28 women, and 13 children, who are residents of Kutupalong refugee camp in Ukhia upazila.

On being informed that Rohingyas gathered to go to Malaysia, with the assistance of human traffickers, by sea, police launched the drive and rescued 62 Rohingyas, Zakir Hossen Bhuiyan, officer-in-charge of Pekua Police station, told Banglanews.

At the same night, Members of Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) rescued 17 Rohingya refugees from St. Martin area of Teknaf.

Of the 17 Rohingya, 10 are men while 7 were women.

Five human traffickers were also detained over their involvement in the trafficking.
