4 killed as nor’wester lashes Dhaka Baitul Mukarram Mosque

DHAKA:   Four persons have been killed as nor’wester knocked down a wall in Madhya Badda and a makeshift camp in Baitul Mukarram Mosque with 93 km/h wind speed in Dhaka city on Friday (May 17).

The incidents happened when the wind started to blow after Iftar.

Three persons died after a wall, located at Pran Center in Madhya Badda, fell over them during squally wind, Rafiqul Islam, Officer-in-charge of Badda Police Station, told Banglanews.

A Muslim devotee, named as Safiqul Islam, 35, was killed after a makeshift camp’s roof collapsed. At least 13 devotees were injured in the same incident.

Meteorologist Hafijur Rahman told Banglanews that nor’wester of a large scale of this season has blown over Dhaka on Friday evening.

The squally wind downed trees, blew roofs of tin-shed houses away, making people disperse as it blew.
