Rape victim holds press conference, seeks justice

BARISAL: A madrasa student held a press conference in Barisal press club demanding justice over rape in Hizla upazila of the district.

The 8th grader briefed media with a written statement around 12:30 pm on Tuesday (April 23).

She said, “I am an 8th grade student of Islamia Dakhil Madrasa of the upazila. Sajib Gazi, son of Nurul Haque Gazi, hailing from Char Memaniya village of the upazila, used to tease me on my way to the madrasa back and forth.”

“Sazib raped me on the evening of March 30 as there were no guardians in my house then. At my screaming, locals rushed to me whereupon Sajib fled the house,” she said.

She also said, “The chairman, after being notified of the incident, asked the culprit to pay Taka 50,000, but they did not agree to the proposal. We later filed a case with police station, but police registered a case of attempted rape rather than rape. Afterwards, the case was filed with Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal.”

The madrasa student demanded punishment of Sajib.
