Govt responsibility to ensure expats’ welfare: PM

FROM BRUNEI: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said it is the government's responsibility to ensure the welfare of Bangladeshi nationals living in different countries across the world. 

So, in the countries where Bangladeshi nationals living, own buildings or chancery complex will be built gradually in a bid to provide them necessary services, she added. 

She made the remarks while addressing a function in Brunei on Tuesday (April 23) morning while laying foundation stone of new Chancery Building of Bangladesh High Commission at the Diplomatic Enclave at Jalan Kebangsaan.

The premier said expatriates send their hard earned money to Bangladesh and their contribution to economy of the country is highest.

“At the same time, she said that expatriates have made important contributions to the construction of infrastructure and the economy of those countries where they live”.

For this reason, Bangladesh will build its own building or chancery complex in every country for the welfare of expatriates.

With the initiative of the Awami League government, new century complexes have already been set up in a number of countries, including Saudi Arabia. Besides, the new Chancery Complex will soon be inaugurating in several other countries, including Italy, PM Hasina added. 

The premier also thanked the expatriate Bangladeshis for their contributions to country’s economy, forex reserve. 

Sheikh Hasina said at least one Bangladeshi school will be build in every country where large number of Bangladeshi expatriates are living so that their children can pursue study there properly.

During building a new Chancery complex, the culture and history of Bangladesh must be highlighted. Besides, the environment and climate of the country concerned will be considered.

Lauding the architectural design of Bangladesh’s Chancery Building in Brunei, the premier thanked Rozain Mery Yanti, the main architect of complex, and her team for its beautiful design.

Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen and Bangladesh’s High Commissioner to Brunei Air Vice Marshal (retd) Mahmud Hussain also spoke at the function.
