Drug trader killed in ‘gunfight’ along Cumilla border

CUMILLA: An alleged drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), along Golabari border in Sadar upazila early on Tuesday (April 23).

The deceased was identified as Abdul Malek, 30, a resident of Noapara village of Chauddagram upazila.

Abu Salam Miah, officer in charge of Kotwali Police Station, said tipped-off, a team of BGB, led by Habildar A Mannan of BGB 10 battalion, conducted drive in Jaluapara area along Golabari border around 4:30am. 

Sensing the presence of lawmen, the drug traders opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back, leaving one drug trader injured.

Later, he was then taken to Cumilla Medical College Hospital, where doctor declared him dead. 

However, BGB recovered 29,860 yaba pills from the spot.

The body has been handed over to family members, the OC added.
