Russel Sarkar gets prosthetic leg

SAVAR (DHAKA): Russel Sarker, who lost his left leg after a speeding bus of Green Line Paribahan ran over him, has got a prosthetic leg at the Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (CRP).

Mohammad Shafiq, head of CRP's prosthetic and orthotics department has attached a Swiss-made artificial leg to Russell around 10:30 am. 

“The prosthetic leg made by Switzerland International Technology has been attached to Russell by CRP with free of cost,” Mohammad Shafiq told Banglanews. 

He also said a few days ago, his leg was fully examined. Russell's new leg was attached on Thursday after completion of some tests. It will take about four weeks to get used to with the artificial leg

Shafiq added that CRP will help Russell to practice to adjust his movement with the leg.

Russel's left leg was amputated from the thigh down following an accident as driver Kabir Hossain of Green Line Paribahan drove the bus over him at the Dolaipar end of Mayor Hanif Flyover in the capital on April 28, 2018.

Earlier on (April 10) Green Line Paribahan has paid Tk 5-lakh to Russel Sarkar who lost his leg as a bus of the transport group ran over him.

The HC bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahsan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader asked Md Alauddin, owner of the Green Line Paribahan, to pay the rest Tk 45 lakh to Russel in next one month.

The court also ordered Alauddin to arrange the replacement of Russel’s amputated left leg with a prosthesis in consultation with the Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed.
