MYMENSINGH: Awami League candidate Ekramul Haque Titu was elected uncontested as the first mayor of Mymensingh City Corporation (MCC).
Returning Officer (RO) and Regional Election Officer Md Alimuzzaman confirmed the matter to Banglanews Wednesday (April 17) evening.
The announcement will come out in a gazette after holding elections to councillor posts on May 5, he said.
Ekramul Haque Titu was elected uncontested after Jatiya Party nominated candidate Jahangir Ahmed had withdrawn his candidacy.
Jatiya Party Mymensingh metropolitan unit president Jahangir Ahmed filed the plea with Election Commission (EC) on Wednesday noon.
Ekramul Haque Titu is the Mymensingh metropolitan unit Awami League vice president.
He served as the mayor of Mymensingh Municipality for straight nine and a half years.
On May 5, EC will hold elections to rest of the posts of MCC, the 12th city corporation of the country.
