RAJSHAHI: The much awaited high speed train ‘Banalata Express’ is all set to hit Rajshahi-Dhaka rail route for the maiden trip on April 25.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to launch the train through a videoconference from her state residence Ganabhaban.

Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton confirmed the matter to Banglanews Tuesday (April 16).

The Railways Ministry directed the authorities of Railway West Zone to take necessary preparations for the inauguration, West Zone General Manager (GM) Khandaker Shahidul Islam told Banglanews.

Railways Minister Nurul Islam Sujan is scheduled to attend the inaugural ceremony at Rajshahi Rail Station.

At 10am on April 25, Banalata Express will leave Rajshahi Rail Station for Dhaka.

Assembled with 12 bogies, Banalata Express has bio-toilet system, making the facility first for any local train.

The train will run six days a week. It will take four to four and a half hours for Dhaka-Rajshahi journey, said Railway Additional Director General (Operation) Mia Jahan.
