College student hacked dead in Jhalakathi

JHALAKATHI: A college student was hacked to death in Rajapur upazila of Jhalakathi.

The deceased was identified as Mehedi Hasan Shuvo, son of one Mahbub Howlader in Pashchim Bariya village and 12th grader at Bariya Degree College.

The deceased was an accused in two cases on murder charge and another case over illegal arms, filed with Rajapur Police Station and Dhaka’s Rampura Police Station.  

He was freed from jail, upon bail, recently.

The deceased’s parents told reporters that a few youths including one Israfil Howlader’s son Neyamat Ullah called Shuvo away from the home on Monday (March 25) night.

Afterwards, Shuvo was found in severely battered condition with cut marks on different parts of body and detached hands and legs at a field in Kolakopa Bilerbari area, Tuesday (March 26) morning.

He succumbed to injuries while was being taken to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barishal, by the locals.

The family claimed that Shuvo was murdered in a planned attack.

The whole incident is being investigated. Besides, efforts are on arrest the guilty, said Rajapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Jahid Hossain and Sub-Inspector (SI) Rafiqul Islam.

The family is taking preparation to file a case, over the incident, said the police officials.
