President, PM pay tributes to liberation war heroes

DHAKA: President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid tributes to the martyrs at the National Mausoleum in Savar in the first hours of the 49th Independence Day.

The President and the PM placed floral wreaths at the National Mausoleum just before 6:00 am on Tuesday (March 26).

President Abdul Hamid placed wreaths first at 5:57 am. Just after the president, Sheikh Hasina placed wreaths there.

Later, they stood in solemn silence for some time in memory of the martyrs during the Bangladesh War of Liberation in 1971. A team of three Armed Forces gave them guard of honors.

A smartly turned-out contingent drawn from the three services presented a state salute on the occasion, while the bugles played the last post.

Later, flanked by senior leaders of the party, Sheikh Hasina, also the president of Awami League (AL), placed another wreath at the National Memorial on behalf of the party.

Besides, Deputy Speaker Advocate Fazle Rabbi Mia and Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain also paid homage to the war heroes of 1971 by placing wreaths at the National Memorial.

Jatiya Party’s Co-Chairperson Begum Raushon Ershad and Secretary General Md. Moshiur Rahman Ranga also placed wreaths at the National Memorial of behalf of the party.

Families of Bir Shreshthas, war wounded freedom fighters, members of the diplomatic corps, leaders of different political parties, social, cultural and professional bodies and people from all walks of life also laid wreaths at the national mausoleum.
