Voting at Katiadi upazila elections suspended

KISHOREGANJ:  Voting at all 89 centres in Katiadi upazila of the district has been suspended ‘following allegations of irregularities’ in the 3rd phase of fifth upazila parishad elections.

Mohammad Tajul Islam, Returning Officer and also district election officer, told Banglanews about the updates on Sunday (March 24). 

Following the incident, voting remained suspended at all centres in the upazila. 

On Saturday (March 23) night, ballots were allegedly stuffed in some centres of Katiadi upazila. In view of this, the Election Commission has suspended voting at all 89 polling centres, said RO Mohammad Tajul Islam. 

After investigation, strict action will be taken against those who involved in such act, he added.

Shafikul Islam, Additional Superintendent of Kishoreganj Police (Crime department) and Mohammad Shamsuddin, Officer In charge of Katiadi Police Station, have been withdrawn for negligence in discharging their duties in the upazila parishad elections.

Kishoreganj Superintendent of Police (SP) Mashrukur Rahman Khaled told Banglanews about the development around 11:30am.
