Polling centre attacked, cop suffers bullet wound

CHATTOGRAM:  A police official suffered bullet injuries in an attack launched by miscreants at a polling centre in Chandanaish upazila of Chattogram during the third phase upazila elections.

The incident took place at Purbo Chandanaish Government Primary School around 9:30am when a gang of miscreants attacked polling centre to take control of it, said Keshab Chakrabarty, officer-in-charge of Chandanaish Police Station.

Injured Farhad, a constable of the police station, was sent Chattogram Medical College Hospital, the OC added.

Contacted, Additional Superintendent of Police (South) Afruzul Huq Tutul told Banglanews that police have brought the situation under the control.

Voting in the third phase of 5th upazila parishad elections is underway in 117 upazilas amid festivity and tight security measures Sunday (March 24).

The balloting will continue from 8am to 4pm, without any break.
