Fatal road crash sparks protest in Barishal Police obstructed the protesters.

BARISHAL: Students of Government BM College on Saturday (March 23) staged demonstrations by blocking Dhaka-Barishal Highway to protest the deadly road crash that left seven persons killed in Barishal.

The agitated students took a rally from their campus to the central bus terminal in Nothullabad area of the city, in the morning.

They checked licence papers of vehicles plying on the roads and chanted slogans for punishment of the driver responsible for Friday’s accident.

The protesters were obstructed by policemen near Hosainia Madrasha.

Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal Barishal district unit member secretary Dr Manisha Chakraborty expressed solidarity with the protesting students.

Normalcy returned after higher officials of local administration and Barishal City Corporation (BCC) Mayor Serniabat Sadiq Abdullah assured them of legal action over the deadly accident.

The students withdrew the road blockade around 12:15pm.

Airport Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdur Rahman Mukul confirmed the matter to Banglanews.

However, transport workers resumed bus services from the central bus terminal which earlier they shut protesting detention of the fellow driver involved in Friday’s crash.

On Friday (March 22), seven persons including a female student of Govt BM College and a child were killed and six others injured when a bus and a three-wheeler collided head-on in Banaripara upazila.
