Indian Khasias kill Bangladeshi along Sylhet border

SYLHET: A Bangladeshi young man was shot to death by members of Indian Khasia community along the border in Companiganj upazila on Friday (March 22) morning.

The deceased was identified as Md Babul Miah, 19, son of Muslim Uddin of bordering Turong village in the upazila.

Quoting locals, Tajul Islam, officer-in-charge of Companiganj Police Station, said Babul stood in the area adjacent to sub-pillar no. 2 of the main pillar no 1,260 along the border to collect betel nuts when Khasia community members fired gunshots at him, killing him on the spot.

Local resident Harunur Rashid recovered the body with the help of members of Border Guard of Bangladesh (BGB) of Domdoma border camp.

Being informed, a team of police is on way to the spot. The body will be sent to MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for autopsy, the OC added.
