Padma Bridge's 9th Span installed, 1350 meters now visible

MUNSHIGANJ: The ninth span of the Padma bridge was installed at Jazira point of Shariatpur Friday (March 22) morning, making 1,350 metres of the much-hyped bridge visible.

The 9th span (superstructure) was placed between pear-34 and pear-35 around 8:50am, Banglanews Munshiganj correspondent reports, quoting the project engineers.

The grey colour 6D span is 150 metres long and weighs 3,140 tonnes.

The latest span of the Padma bridge reached the Jazira end of the bridge 11:00am on Wednesday (March 20) from the specialised workshop at Mawa.

The installation work of the ninth span began at 5:00am and was completed around 8:50am without any complication.

“The ninth span was scheduled to be placed on the pillar on Thursday but it is not possible due to anchoring problem. Besides, due to lack of adequate navigability in the river, there are some problems, a highly placed official of the bridge construction told Banglanews wishing to be unnamed.

That's why the span has been installed on Friday morning, the official added.

The eighth span (superstructure) of the 6.15-km Padma bridge was installed on February 20.

So far eight spans at Jajira point and one span at Munshiganj point of the bridge have been placed. The spans are 150-meter long each.

The first span of the bridge was laid on pillars 37 and 38 on September 30, 2017. The second span was placed on January 28, 2018. The third span was laid on March 11 of the same year while the fourth was placed on May 13 and the fifth span was installed on June 29, the same year. The sixth span was installed on January 23, 2019.
