2 Bangladeshi Christchurch victims’ burial Friday

DHAKA: Two Bangladeshi victims from Christchurch mosques mass shooting are scheduled to be buried in New Zealand on Friday (March 22).

The burial of Dr Abdus Samad of Kurigram and Hosne Ara Farid of Sylhet will be held followed by namaz-e-janaza after Jummah prayers.

With the consent from victims’ family members, their funeral will be held there.

On March 16, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam said Bangladeshi nationals Lipi, Motasser, Md Omar Faruk, Shahjada Akter, and Sheikh Hasan Rubel were injured.

Of them, Lipi and Motassif are critically wounded.

The mass shooting incident left 49 people killed and scores of others injured as a gunman launched attacks at two mosques during the Friday Jummah prayers.

The bullet-ridden Al Noor mosque, where more than 40 people died, was cleaned and repaired for Friday prayers.

Australian Brenton Tarrant, 28, a suspected white supremacist who was living in Dunedin, on New Zealand’s South Island, has been charged with murder following the attack.

He was remanded without a plea and is due back in court on April 5, when police said he was likely to face more charges.
