2 'yaba traders' killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfight’

COX’S BAZAR: Two alleged yaba traders were killed in a reported gunfight between the drug smuggling gang and police at Rajarchhara in Teknaf upazila early on Friday (March 22).

The deceased were identified as Nur Mohammad, 40, son of Azahar Mia of Nazirpara, and Nurul Amin, 35, son of Abdus Shukkur of Jaliapara in the upazila. 

Pradip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station, told Banglanews that tipped off, a team of police went to Rajarchhara to recovered yaba pills and firearms.  

Sensing their presence, the criminals opened fire on them which prompted the lawmen to fire back.

The two criminals came in the line of fire and died on the spot while the others managed to escape the scene. 

Police, however, recovered 20,000 yaba pills and 20 rounds of cartridges from the spot. 

Both of them enlisted yaba traders according to the list of the home ministry and were accused in a number of cases, the OC added.

The bodies were sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
