‘Drug dealer’ killed in Cumilla ‘shootout’

CUMILLA: A suspected drug dealer was killed in a reported shootout with policemen in Cumilla sadar south upazila early Thursday (March 21).

The deceased was identified as Jamal Huq alias Jambu Mia, 35.

Some 30 kg hemp and 2,000 piece yaba were recovered from the spot. 

Polices from the sadar south model police station and detective branch (DB) carried out a drive on tip-off about drug dealing in Dhonpur area, at early hours, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mamun Or Rashid.

The drug dealers opened fire at the law enforcers enforcing them to retaliate with firing back.

As the shootout ended, Jambu Mia was found with bullet injuries while the others managed to flee. 

He was taken to Comilla Medical College Hospital (CMCH) where the physician pronounced him dead.

The body was kept at the morgue for an autopsy, added the OC.
