DHAKA: Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) suspended plying of the buses of Suprobhat Paribahan and Jabal-e-Noor Paribahan on the roads of Dhaka.

Route permits of the two bus services have been cancelled for indefinite period as per Article 72 of Motor Vehicles Ordinance 1983.

The decision was confirmed to media, in a letter signed by BRTA Deputy Director Engr Shafiquzzaman Bhuiyan on Wednesday (March 20).

Two students of Shaheed Ramiz Uddin Cantonment College were crushed to death by a bus of Jabal-e-Noor Paribahan in Kurmitola area of Dhaka on July 29, 2018.

Authorities then suspended plying of Jabal-e-Noor Paribahan amid protests over the deaths. But, the same buses reportedly came to roads again months after the crash.

However, on Wednesday, BRTA banned plying of the buses of Jabal-e-Noor and Suprobhat amid protests a day after a Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) student was crushed to death by a bus of Suprobhat Paribahan in Pragati Sarani area of Dhaka’s Nodda.
