BENAPOLE (JASHORE): A class-VI female student got her right leg mutilated as a pickup van hit her on her way to school in Jashore’ Benapole Thursday (March 20).

One of her fellows sustained injuries.

Infuriated by the incident, students blocked the Jashore-Benapole Highway for three hours causing long tailback of vehicles stretching some 20 kilometers.    

Locals and the students said a pickup van hit a van carrying Burijbagan Pilot Girls School’s sixth grader Nipa and seventh grader Smrity.

Nipa got her right leg completely detached from her body and Smrity sustained critical injuries after falling on ground. 

The pickup-van, belonged to Sharsha upazila land office, was set afire by the agitating students.

“Necessary measures are being taken for the injured students’ treatment,” said Sharsha Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Pulak Kumar Mondal. 

No case was filed over the incident till filing this report.

Drives are on to nab the driver, said Sharsha Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Moshiur Rahman.
