BUP student killed in accident, city road blocked

DHAKA: A university student was killed as a recklessly driven city bus ran over him in city Nodda area on Pragati Sarani in the capital city on Tuesday (Mar 19) morning. 

The deceased was identified as Abrar Ahmed Chowdhury, first year student of International Relations Department of the Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) and son of Brig General (retd) Arif Ahmed Chowdhury of Bashundhara area.

A bus of ‘Suprovat Paribahan’ ran over Abrar around 7:30am when he was getting up to his university bus, leaving him injured critically, said Abdul Ahad, additional deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Gulshan circle.

He was whisked off to Kurmitola Hospital where doctors declared him dead. His body has been kept at morgue here for autopsy.

Meanwhile, angry students from nearby universities took to the street in the middle of Nardda-Kuril intersection of Pragati Sarani and protested the death of Abrar. 

The protest has created traffic congestion on both sides on Badda-Kuril Biswa Road since morning, causing huge sufferings of office, university and school goers.

Additional DC Abdul Ahad told Banglanews that police seized the bus and arrested its driver.
