BRAHMANBARIA: The construction work of a 400 megawatt (MW) gas-fired combined cycle power plant has begun in Ashuganj Power Plant in Brahmanbaria Monday (Mar 18).
Chief engineer of the plant and project director Khitish Chandra Biswas launched the construction around 11am, in presence of other officials of the project and its contractor.
The Chinese consortium of China Technical Import and Export Corporation (CNTIC) and China National Corporation for Overseas Economic Cooperation (CCOEC) are constructing the plant in assistance from Asian Development Bank (ADB), at a total cost of Tk 14.73 billion.
Commercial production is expected begin at the plant in July, 2021.
At present, 1,580 MW electricity is being produced from eight units of the Ashuganj Power Plant.
The production would reach 2,000 MW once the new plant is built.
