Returned home to build a prosperous country: Hasina

TUNGIPARA (GOPALGANJ): Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday (Mar 17) said she had returned home from her exile life only for building Bangladesh a developed and prosperous country as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. 

 “I returned the country to materialize his dream to make Bangladesh a developed and prosperous one freeing from hunger and poverty. Still now I remain firm on that decision,” she added.

PM Hasina was addressing Children’s Rally and Cultural Programme as the chief guest marking the 99th birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Children’s Day on Bangabandhu Mausoleum Complex premises at Tungipara.

'I have always thought about a thing, I have to work. I need to fulfill my father's dream.”

Expressing her desire to turn the country into a suitable abode for the children, she recited from Poet Sukanta Bhattacharya’s ‘Chharpatra’, “Choley jabo, tobu aaj jatakkhan dehe achey pran, pranponey prithivir sorabo janjal…….. E bishwake e shishur basjoggya kore jabo ami”.

The prime minister also reiterated her commitment to serve the people until the last day of her life.

Recalling the assassination of Bangabandhu and his family members, PM Hasina said, “When I left Dhaka in 1975, all of my family members saw me off at airport. But after returning the country, we (Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana) have only found a number of graves in Banani graveyard and the grave of our father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman besides our grandfather and grandmother.” 

Lamia Shikder, a class-V student of Gopalganj Maleka Academy, presided over the function while Suraiya Yasmin, a class-X student, read out the best letter written to Bangabandhu here.

A video titled “Amar Kotha Shono” was also screened on the occasion.

PM Hasina also distributed prizes among the children who participated in literary and cultural competitions organized by Gopalganj district administration marking the day.

Secretary of the Women and Children Affairs Ministry Kamrun Nahar, Divisional Commissioner of Dhaka KM Ali Azam and Gopalganj Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mohammad Mokhlesur Rahman Sarkar were present on the occasion.
