‘Robber’ killed in Munshiganj ‘shootout’

MUNSHIGANJ: A suspected robber was killed in a reported shootout with policemen in Munshiganj sadar upazila early Sunday (Feb 17).

The deceased was identified as Md Humayun, 30.

He was accused in six cases filed on illegal arms, drugs and robbery charges.

Police said the deceased was belonged to a robber gang mainly active in Meghna river areas. 

He was earlier arrested by police.

At the night, police took him in a drive to recover arms and drug items under Taleswar Bridge in Mohakali union.

Humayun’s accomplices opened fire at police members, said sadar police station officer-in-charge (OC) Alamgir Hossain.

Police fired back in retaliation.

At one stage, Humayun sustained bullet injuries while his accomplices managed to flee the spot.

Humayun was taken to Munshiganj Sadar Hospital where he was pronounced dead by the physician.

Two police members were injured in the shootout. They were later hospitalized.

A foreign pistol, three rounds of bullet, a dagger and a machete were recovered from the spot, said the OC.
