2 college girls killed in Sylhet crash The battered auto-rickshaw

SYLHET: Two college girls were killed when a bus and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw collided head-on on Dhaka-Sylhet Highway in South Surma area Saturday (Feb 16) afternoon.

They were identified as Lia Begum, 17, and Aysha Siddika, 18. They were cousins.

Two others were injured.

Lia, daughter of one Syed Majlish Ali from Mohammadpur village in South Surma, studied in class-XII at South Surma Degree College and Aysha, daughter of one Liakat Hossain from the same village, studied in class-XII at South Surma Nurjahan Memorial College. 
 
Witnesses said a bus leaving from Sylhet collided face-to-face with an auto-rickshaw in Bodikona Pashchim Para area, leaving Lia dead on the spot, around 3:30pm.

Three others including Aysha and two passengers of the auto-rickshaw were injured.

They were taken to MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital where Aysha succumbed to injuries.

The bodies were sent to the hospital morgue. The bus and the auto-rickshaw were seized from the spot, South Surma Police Station Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Ripon Das told Banglanews.

Enraged locals blocked the highway to protest the accident which was later brought under control by the administration.
