COX’S BAZAR:  Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said borders will be strictly protected to prevent yaba smuggling into Bangladesh from Myanmar.

He said, “Yaba is smuggled into Bangladesh through 193 frontiers including Ukhia and Teknaf. We asked Myanmar many times to stop smuggling, but in vain. So, we decided to protect our frontiers.”

The minister presided over a function where 102 drug peddlers surrendered to police at Teknaf Pilot High School on Saturday (February 16).

Citing allegations made against a few members of law enforcers, Asaduzzaman Khan said, “If anyone is found involved with this crime, we’ll handle it in a tough manner.”

The minister asked drug dealers to inform Inspector General of Police (IGP) Javed Patwary and them, whoever among law enforcers is involved with drug dealings.

Mentioning boats that go fishing in the Naf River and return with yaba pills, he said, “We’ll sort out this issue too.”
