‘Drug trader’ killed in Teknaf ‘gunfight’

COX’S BAZAR: A suspected drug trader was killed in an alleged gunfight with the law enforcers in Jaliapara area of Teknaf upazila early Sunday (Jan 20).

The deceased was identified as Mostak Ahmed alias Muchu, 30.

Lt Col Mohammad Asadud Zaman Chowdhury, commanding officer of BGB-2 battalion told Banglanews that Border Buard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested Mostak on Saturday night. Based on his information, they in association with police conducted a drive in Jaliapara area around 4:30 am.

He also said sensing the presence of the team, cohorts of Mostak opened fire on them to snatch him away, prompting the law enforcers to fire back, triggering the gunfight.

The gunfight left Mostak dead on the spot. Later the body was sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue, he added.

Besides, 10,000 pieces of Yaba tablets and arms were recovered from the spot, said Asadud Zaman Chowdhury.
