RAJSHAHI: An Assistant Commissioner (AC Land), his security guard and driver came under attack allegedly by a group of illegal sand lifters in Padma river in Bagha upazila of Rajshahi Saturday (Jan 19).

Bagha Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohsin Ali said local influential Nawshad Ali and his associates lifted sand by illegally dredging the river in Harirampur area for last several days.

On information, upazila AC Land Imrul Kayes went to visit the spot on Saturday noon.

The visit made the sand lifters infuriated.

At one stage, a team some 15-20 of them attacked Imrul Kayes.

His security guard Polin and driver Raju were also beaten up indiscriminately as they came to his rescue.

Locals rescued the trio and took to the upazila heath complex.

Polin was moved to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) as his condition was deteriorating. He sustained critical injuries on his eye.

Rajshahi Deputy Commissioner (DC) SM Abdul Kader said the criminals won’t be spared. Legal action will be taken against them soon.

A case will be filed against them, he added.
