Meghna trawler capsize: 3 persons sued Search operation underway for 4th day/photo-Banglanews

MUNSHIGANJ:  A case has been filed against three persons for missing 20 workers as a boat capsized in the Meghna River at Charjhapta in Sadar upazila.

A worker, who survived the boat capsize, filed the case with Gazaria Police station on Friday evening (January 18).

The accused are-Sareng Md Habib, 55, son of late Karim Bepari,  hailing from Shibchar upazila of Madaripur District, trawler owner Jakir Dewan, 45, son of Monnam Dewan of Fatullah town of Narayanganj, and the driver of the goods-laden ship, who is yet to be identified.

Habib and Jakir are on the run.

Harun Or Rashid, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gazaria Police station, confirmed the matter to Banglanews.

A soil-laden trawler with 34 workers onboard sank in the Meghna River of Narayanganj after having collided with a goods-laden ship on Wednesday (Jan 16), said Asad Ali, sub inspector of Gozaria rival police outpost.

A sum of 14 workers managed to swim ashore while 20 remain missing in the incident, he added.

The search operation is going on for the fourth day to trace the 20 people who went missing.  

Deputy Commissioner Shayla Farzana on Thursday (Jan 17) night formed a nine-member committee headed by Additional District magistrate Mobassherul Islam to probe the trawler capsize incident.
