JHALOKATI: A college student was beaten to death by his classmates over a love affair related dispute in Nalchity upazila of Jhalokati on Wednesday noon (Nov 21).

The deceased, identified as Rakib Hossain, 17, son of one Masum Hossain of Nandikati area, was an 11th grade student of Govt. Nalchity Degree College.

According to police and local sources, Rakib was locked in a dispute with his classmates Nafiul, Sihab and Rahat over a love affair related matter. Rakib was beaten up by classmates on college campus on Nov 19. However, the matter did not end there and on Wednesday noon, classmates again attacked Rakib on campus and beaten him up with cricket bats and stamps. He died later on way to hospital.

Nalchity police station officer-in-charge (OC) Md Sakhawat Hossain said the body was kept in Jhalokati sadar hospital morgue for autopsy. A youth by the name Kawsar Hossain Salman was detained by police for suspicion of his involvement in the matter.
