DHAKA: Police arrested BNP standing committee member Barrister Rafiqul Islam Mia in Dhaka on Tuesday evening (Nov 20). 

Members of Detective Branch (DB) of Police arrested him from his Eskaton residence around 6:30pm a few hours after a Dhaka court sentenced him to three years’ imprisonment.

DB additional deputy-commissioner (ADC) Golam Saklayen confirmed the matter to Banglanews. 

Meanwhile, BNP chairperson’s press wing member Shairul Kabir Khan also confirmed the matter. 

Earlier in the day, Barrister Rafiqul Islam Mia was handed three years’ imprisonment in a case filed against him for not submitting his wealth statement to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Judge Dr. Shiekh Golam Mahbub of Dhaka Special Judge’s Court-6 also fined Rafiqul Tk 50,000, in default, three more months jail term.
