Block all pornographic websites for 6 months: HC

DHAKA: The High Court has ordered the authorities concerned of government to block all pornographic websites for the next six months.

An HC bench comprising Justice Moinul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Md Ashraful Kamal came up with the directive and rule on Monday (Nov 19) following a writ petition.

The HC also issued a rule against the authorities concerned to explain in four weeks why all pornographic sites and publication of obscene materials should not be declared illegal.

In the rule, the court also asked explanation from authorities concerned why people should not be directed to use National Identity (NID) number to determine their accurate age while using facebook or other social media platforms.

The HC also asked in the rule that why short term internet packages offered by the operators should not be directed to shut down. 

A total of nine people concerned including Posts and Telecommunications Secretary, Law Secretary, Information Secretary, BTRC and all nine mobile operators were made respondent to the rule.

Seeking HC order, an organization named 'Law and Life Foundation' submitted the writ petition stating that pornography websites are now containing uncensored content and obscene materials and those are harmful for the moral and mental development of the people of the society, particularly the youths.
