DHAKA: Shushashoner Jonno Nagorik (Shujan), a civil society platform, has voiced concern on whether the upcoming 11th parliamentary election will be fair as it is going to be held under partisan government.
Dr. Badiul Alam Majumder, secretary of Shujan, was speaking at a press conference in Jatiya Press Club on Monday (Nov 19).
Badiul Alam said, “We all have doubts on fair election as it will be held under partisan government. However we want the Election Commission to carry out its duty properly and hold a free, fair and acceptable election. Otherwise the youth society will loose faith on democracy.”
The Shujan secretary also said, “If we look at the past records, it can be seen that the ruling party regained power in polls whenever it was held under their partisan government. Since the parliament is not dissolved and many parliament members have control over their locality, the EC must play their due role so that vote results do not get influenced unexpectedly.”
Shujan central coordinator Dilip Kumar Sarkar said, “In some recently held elections, the role of administration and the law enforcement force were questionable. So the risk of election influence is higher under partisan government. The EC must take utmost cautionary steps on his matter.”
