‘None except Dr Kamal to bring back Bangabandhu’s dream’ Reza Kibria joining Gono Forum

DHAKA: Former finance minister Shah MS Kibria’s son Reza Kibria said there is no one except Dr. Kamal who can bring back the Bangladesh that the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman once dreamt of.

Reza Kibria made the remarks while formerly joining Gono Forum at Dr. Kamal’s Motijheel chamber on Sunday noon (Nov 18).

Reza, who came back from abroad on Friday, announced that he will contest the upcoming 11th parliamentary election from Dr Kamal-led Jatiya Oikyfront, an alliance of BNP, Gono Forum and other political parties.

He said, “They (ruling Awami League) have drifted far away from the ideals that once my father fought for. My father was a government employee and served his country. He created Foreign Ministry under the leadership of Bangabandhu and served as foreign secretary in Ziaur Rahman government. He created the original position paper of SAARC.”

Mentioning that his father’s main objective was to serve the country, he said, “I don’t want to leave my father’s ideals. I want to see a new Bangladesh. None except Dr Kamal can bring back the Bangladesh that Bangabandhu once dreamt of.”

Reza’s father Shah AMS Kibria was an adversary council member of AL and took charge of the Finance Ministry in 1996. Though BNP-Jamaat coalition came to power in 2001, Kibria was elected member of the parliament from Habiganj-3 constituency.

He along with four others was killed and 70 others injured in a grenade attack on a public rally of local Awami League at Baidder Bazar in Sylhet sadar upazila on 27 January 2005.
